Boarding

Boarding your animals at our Luna Nueva Alpaca Ranch is the perfect way to reap the benefits of owning alpacas while you are still waiting for the move to the country.  Or, if you currently have you animals on a ranch that is cramped and over-crowded you should think about the effect those conditions have of their health.  Alpacas evolved as somewhat nomadic.  Wandering over vast expanses of land.  I believe that some health and birthing problems can be directly attributed to lack of exercise.  That’s why we allow our animals to roam large pastures most everyday.

We offer ‘paca room and board on 35 acres at a very reasonable fee.  Your animals will be able to enjoy carefree strolls thru the large pastures at their leisure, grazing and getting exercise along the way.  Should the weather take a turn or if the sun is to hot, shelter is always available.  Our guests are secure at night in the well appointed barn. We have automatic heated waterers on cold mornings and on hot summer afternoon there are fans in the barn and misters under the eves. Shearing, worming, hoof trimming, and vaccinations  can be performed by the hands on owner and will reduce the monthly boarding fee or these services can be perform by us.

Health care with a very experienced camelid vet is available.  We are very fortunate to be only 20 minutes from the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Fort Collins in case of emergencies.

We have had several very satisfied boarders in the past.  Here is a letter written to us by Dina Kotka-Holtz recommending our ranch:

“To new breeders or existing breeders. Terry and Dena Holtz want to tell you about Luna Nueva Ranch! We started our alpaca business in 2006 on a impulse. We knew very little of alpacas when we purchased our first females and males. At the time of our purchase we lived in an average neighborhood and had no farm. We had to board our purchase and as luck would have it, we found a place to board our alpacas at a reasonable price. That was with Luna Nueva Ranch, in Berthoud, Colorado. Both owners, Barbara and Jay Byrd, went beyond any customer service you would find anywhere else in helping us manage our herd.

We started out with problems right away with our herd. Our females were full of parasites and ticks and one of our males had an abscess in his neck that required surgery and after care. With the Byrd's vigilant care, we got through a first tough year and learned everything from toenail clipping to watching two of our first crias born on their farm. They cared for our alpacas as much as they cared for their own. Now we have our own farm and feel more confident in handling our own herd. We recommend anyone looking for quality care for their herd to BOARD with Barbara and Jay Byrd at Luna Nueva Ranch in Berthoud, Colorado. You won't be disappointed!
Thank you both so much for everything you have done for us.
We love our alpacas and can not imagine life without them. “
